Fairytale Translation /

Once upon a time in the rural area of Batam island, there was a village where lived an orphaned girl. Her name is Mah Bungsu. She became a housemaid of a rich named Mak Piah. Mak Piah had a daughter called Siti Mayang. One day, Mah bongsu was washing her boss' clothes on the riverbank. "SNAKE...!" Mah Bongsu shouted in fears while seeing the snake came closer and closer. Fortunately, the snake wasn't ferocious, it swam around while showing scars on its back. Mah Bongsu encoureaged herself to take that injured snake and took it home.
Mah Bongsu treated the snake until fully healed. Its body became healthy and grew bigger by the day. Its outer skin peeled off little by little. Mah Bongsu picked up that snake's peeled skin, then burned it in fire. Miracle.... Every time Mah Bongsu burned it, there'd rise a big smoke. If the smoke flew in the direction of Singapore, suddenly there would be so many pile of gold, diamond, and money. If the direction was Japan, there'd be stacks of Japan-made electronics. And if direction was Bandar Lampung, there'd come scores of Lampung's typical fabric. In two or three months period, Mah Bongsu became significantly richer than her boss, Mak Piah.

Her fortune made people wondering. "Indeed, she must possess a demon to herself", said Mak Piah. Pak Buntal emphasized his wife's statement as well. "It's not a demon! But she had stolen my property!" People became curious and tried to investigate the origin of Mah Bongsu's wealth. It turned out difficult to investigate the origin. People of the village, that was curious, had investigated for few days, but still couldn't uncover the secret.

"The most important now that we are not being disadvantaged", said Mak Ungkai to her neighbors. Even Mak Ungkai and the neighbors expressed their gratitude towards Mah Bongsu, because she always helped their everyday needs. Mah Bongsu even helped the orphans, disabled and people in need. "Mah Bongsu is a generous one", they told.

Felt envy, Mak Piah and Siti Mayang, her daughter felt in rage. Almost every night, they peeked Mah Bongsu's house. "Wow, there is a snake as big as thigh?" Mak Piah muttered. "From the peeled scales and just burn it, will bring treasure in?" she muttered again. "Hmm, if that's the case, I will find find a snake as big as her," Mak Piah stated.

Then, Mak Piah walked through the forest to find a snake. Not long after, she met a poisonous snake. "From this poisonous snake, it must be able to bring more treasure than Mah Bongsu's" Mak Piah thought. She then brought the snake home. At night, the snake was being slept together with Siti Mayang. "I'm afraid! That snake will wind and bite me" Siti Mayang shouted in fears. "My daughter, don't be afraid. Hold a little more, it will bring us wealth", said Mak Piah

Meanwhile, the wound on Mah Bongsu's snake had been recovered. Mah Bongsu loved her snake even more. When she served food for the snake, she was made surprised. "Dont be afraid. Tonight, take me back to the river, where we first met." the snake said like a human. Mah Bongsu sent the snake back to river. When they got there, the snake express his heart content. "Mah Bongsu, I want to repay you the same you had treated me. I want to propose and be your husband". Mah Bongsu even more surprised, she couldn't say one word. She even became confused.

The snake immediately removed the scales and turned into a young man, who was handsome and gallant. The snake's skin turned into a majestic building, placed in front of Mah Bongsu's yard. Thereafter, the place was named "Tiban" village, from word "ketiban", that means fallen by a grand luck.

Finally, Mah Bongsu got married with that handsome man. Their party was held for three days three nights. Loads of attraction was there. The guest endlessly came and congratulated them.
In the opposite of Mah Bongsu's happiness, Mak Piah's family was in sorrow. They were mourning Siti Mayang, their daughter died, pegged by the poisonous snake.
